B.C. Leathers, the UK manufacturer of leathers and tools for the orthopaedic, saddlery and footwear producing industries, has been purchased by one of the country’s largest orthopaedic footwear machinery and materials producers.
As of March 1, Walton on Naze-based B.C. Leathers is now part of A. Algeo of Liverpool which offers a range of materials and machinery for use by the orthopaedic, chiropody and physiotherapy manufacturing industries. Founded in 1994 by Brian Cordery, a previous managing director of leather producer William Pangbourne Limited, B.C. Leathers has won tenders in the Middle East and other export markets for prosthetic items.
Comments Alan Sheridan, managing director of A. Algeo; “Leather is a product that has traditionally been seen as coming from the Northampton shoe area, but the contacts the take-over gives us are second to none. At the same time, it strengthens our position as a ‘one stop shop’ for medical manufacturing customers while giving our growing export activities a boost.”
