Fur as art at 51st Madrid Fashion Week

13/02/2004

Today marks the opening of the 51st edition of SIMM (Semana Internacional del la Moda de Madrid/International Fashion Week of Madrid).

Now Europe’s second-largest show in terms of exhibitors, floor space and number of ‘specialised visitors’, this season’s show is expected to attract more than 28,000 visitors  over its three day duration. Previewing autumn/winter 2004/05, the show also coincides with the fourth edition of the ‘Madrid Lives Fashion’ programme which extends from  from the beginning of January to the end of February and includes a series of presentations, each of them showcasing a different aspect of the city’s vibrant fashion scene.

The programme includes an exhibition of fur creations by Miguel Marinero and inspired by the paintings created by Agustín Ibarrola at Puerto de Llanes, entitled ‘La memoria de los Aristas Agustín Ibarrola/Miguel Marinero’. Showing at the city’s Circulo de Bellas Artes until February 18, the exhibition presents over thirty items, all designed in Spanish lambskin, kid and rabbit and dyed in the colours used by Ibarrola in his work at Puerto de Llanes.

SIMM takes place at the Juan Carlos I Exhibition Centre and is open 9.30am to 7.30 pm (3.30pm Monday).
