Sebago’s Maine plant to close

12/02/2004

As of April this year, Sebago branded footwear will no longer be produced at the company’s Westbrook, Maine plant.

Wolverine World Wide, which owns the Hush Puppy and Merrell brands, purchased Sebago last year and will move production to the Dominion Republic.

Two years ago the factory employed 360 workers, but this figure dwindled to 75 following the takeover. A second plant closed last year.

The announcement comes just two months after footwear producer, GH Bass, eliminated 300 jobs when it closed down its Maine headquarters.
