Hide and skin sales top Rs3.5 billion during Eid Al Adha

The Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has estimated that Rs3.5 billion ($77.3 million) worth of animal hides and skins were purchased in Karachi during the recent Eid Al Adha festival.

 

According to chairman, Fawad Ijaz, sales of sheep and goat skins totalled Rs2.5 billion while cow and bull hides accounted for Rs1 billion. These figures comprise 80% of Pakistan’s total yearly turnover.

 

Ijaz named the main sources of hides and skins as being Al Khidmat Foundation, Edhi and Khidmate Khalq and said hides were purchased for between Rs1,400 and Rs1,600 through open bidding and tenders.
