Nestor Herculano de Paula, vice president of Institutional Relations of the Brazilian footwear manufacturer’s association, Abicalçados, and president of the Administration Council of Azaléia S/A, died in Novo Hamburgo on January 23rd.

 

Mr de Paula was founder of Azaléia S/A and was an important figure in the Brazilian shoe industry, both as an entrepreneur and leader of the sector.  He was president of Abicalçados from 1998 to 2001 where he defended the interests of the local shoe industry. He fought for several causes such as the elimination of the quota system imposed on exports to Argentina and  supported the tanning sector in its struggle to have the 9% duty on wet-blue exports approved by the Federal Government.
