Brazilian leather exports break through the $1 billion barrier in ‘03

Latest figures from the Brazilian Foreign Trade Department, Secex, show the country’s leather exports increased 10% in value and 9% in volume in 2003, reaching just over $1 billion.

 

Italy accounted for 40% of the total, even though exports to that country were down 7% in volume terms (8% by value) while China including Hong Kong was the destination for 32%.

 

Exports to Canada leapt 144% in value terms, with garment leathers accounting for the bulk of the increase. Japanese exports meanwhile rose 76%.  Wet blue exports climbed 6% (-1% in value) and finished leather exports by +48% in volume (+29% in value).
