Environmental first for Bayer Chinese subsidiary

The Chinese Bayer subsidiary, Bayer Wuxi Leather Chemical Company (BWLCC), has been named China’s first "State Environmentally Friendly Enterprise."

 

The award was made by the country's State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) after a team of six SEPA specialists spent three days inspecting the Bayer Wuxi site and auditing its environmental protection procedures.  Assisting them in their enquiries were Dr. Dongqi Hu (Bayer Wuxi General Manager), Xiao Zhang (HSE and QC Manager) and Zhijie Ge (Production Manager).

 

Bayer Wuxi Leather Chemicals Co. Ltd has been producing some 10,000 tons a year of leather chemicals since 1998. With the worldwide acquisition of Sybron, the business line was expanded to include textile processing chemicals. A total of about 85 products are now manufactured in Wuxi by 100 employees. The site also houses Bayer's biggest research and development laboratory for leather products serving both China and the Asia-Pacific region.  The SEPA "State Environmentally Friendly Enterprise" award was launched in 2003 by Chinese officials in recognition of companies with exemplary environmental records.
