Vietnam targets 12.3% boost in leather and footwear exports

Vietnam’s leather and footwear industry has adopted a number of measures aimed at increasing the country’s export value 12.3% to $2.5 billion in 2004.

 

Plans include the increased use of locally made materials in production and the application of new technologies and equipment. There are also measures in place to improve trade promotion activities and personnel training.

 

In 2003, Vietnam’s footwear exports rose 17.8% year-on-year to $2.2 billion. The European Union accounted for 63% of the total, followed by 13% in the US and 3% in Japan.
