Indian leather exports flat as Bangladesh sees rise

 India’s exports of finished leather and leather goods showed a marginal decline of 0.96% during April-June 2003 on the year before, to $452.43 million, according to newly-released figures from the Indian Commerce Ministry.

 

Finished leather recorded a decline of 5.46% to $133.61 million, footwear components -22.36% to $39.49 million and leather garments -11.29% to $46.78 million. However, leather footwear exports rose 11.22% to $112.26 million, leather goods 5.21% to $97.68 million, saddlery & harness 8.52% to $12.09 million and non-leather footwear 51.31% to $10.52 million.

 

The Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) meanwhile has reported that its overall export earnings increased 10% to $1.9 billion in the first quarter (July-Sept) of the current financial year. Though the volume of leather exported fell by 6%, the value was up 12% on the year before, to $49 million.
