05/01/2004

Performance leather manufacturer Pittards has a new member in its Equestrian Leather Team.

Paul Skinner has joined the Leeds based saddlery and leathergoods team to help manage the company’s increasing workload in the equestrian field. Paul has an extensive background in the  leather industry and has been at Pittards for many years.  He is replacing Steve Hartwell who left Pittards at the end of 2003.

Pittards is an established developer of specialist equestrian leathers and is well respected throughout the equestrian world. Pittards customers include English saddle makers Jeffries who use Pittards leather to make their radical Flyover saddle. This saddle is made with Pittards water repellent leathers and has all the substance but half the weight of an ordinary saddle plus a life span of up to 15 years. The saddle was awarded Best New Product at the BETA International 2000 show and was used by Ian Stark to win silver at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Currently Pittards sponsors UK three day eventer Jeanette Brakewell to test their new equestrian leathers. Jeanette is an Olympic medallist and has twice won European bronze and individual silver.  She uses a saddle made with water resistant high performance Pittards leather and wears gloves made of specially developed Pittards equestrian glove leather. Pittards has developed new leathers for specialist riding boots and also makes leather for riding chaps, helmet straps and linings.
