CLIA to inspect leather goods produced under the ‘Genuine Leather Mark’

22/12/2003

The China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) has said it plans to inspect the quality of leather goods produced under its ‘Genuine Leather Mark’ programme in China.

The certification will be withdrawn from companies whose goods do not with meet the required standards. Since its introduction in 1994, 400 Chinese firms have been awarded the accreditation, 180 of them are based in Wenzhou.

A number of industry professionals claim however that it is necessary to review the accreditation procedure as currently products containing just 90% of genuine leather can be awarded with the title.
