Dollar slide hits Copenhagen fur auction prices

18/12/2003

Copenhagen Fur Center opened the new auction season last Sunday with an offering of 340,000 brown male skins. A drop in the dollar of around 9% compared with the last auction in September made it impossible to maintain the price levels previously obtained in Danish Krona.

Scanbrown males fell 9% and only 78% of the offering was sold. Scanglow male prices were down by 7% and were sold out.  Brown females’ prices were slightly down, again due to the decline in the dollar. However, Scanglow females obtained good returns and the biggest surprise of the day was seen in Swakara skins, which rose 14%.

Though the main buyers were from Hong Kong and China, buyers from Russia and Europe were also well represented. The sale was due to continue this week with an offering of White, Pearl, Sapphire, Various Cross, Jaguar, Stardust, Harp Seal and Chinchilla.
