Dr Martens slims US operations

18/12/2003

In an effort to put the company on a more stable financial footing, the offices of Dr Martens AirWair USA have been hit with substantial layoffs. The company has shed around 35 jobs at its Portland, Oregon offices, reducing the total to around 115.

Dr Martens says the cutbacks will allow more money to be spent on product development and branding.  In announcing the cutbacks, David Suddens, managing director of Dr Martens parent group, UK-based R. Griggs, also named Bob Moran as senior vice president of sales at the division and Ralph Sarna as design director. Sarna is understood to be putting a new design team together and opening a new design studio in London’s upmarket Covent Garden district, early in the New Year.
