Maine leather industry sheds 50% of workers in three years

According to the latest US National Association of Manufacturers’ report, issued today, of the 17,800 jobs shed by the manufacturing sector in US state of Maine in the last three years, 2,800 were leather related, leaving just 2,600. Maine lost a greater percentage of its manufacturing jobs than any other state, equivalent to 22.1 percent as opposed to the national average of 15.8 %.  The United States lost 2.73 million manufacturing jobs during the three year period.
