Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin were among the high profile new business gains that helped Austrian tanner Wollsdorf Leder to a 10% rise in turnover for the full year 2002/03, to Eur71.5 million in 2002/03.

Though pre-tax profits were not disclosed, order levels were described as being 25% up on the year before, enabling the Graz-based company to post its highest  level of advance orders ever  Growth was evenly distributed between the company’s two main revenue streams of automotive and furniture, with automotive (both upholstery and steering wheels) accounting for 70% of the total.  Interiors (including aeronautical and marine) and motorcycle garments accounted for the remaining 30%. A total of 40 new employees were taken on since January 2003, bringing the total to 550, while a 15% increase in turnover was seen in the four months from July 1 2003.

In addition to acquiring the three supercar marques as customers, the company began supplying leather for the new Porsche Cayanne 4WD and Volkswagen’s handbuilt luxury saloon, the Phaeton.  Wollsdorf’s fast-growing airline business was reinforced with the addition of Lufthansa, Olympic Airways and Emirates to the customer list.

The company said it expected the same level of business expansion to continue into 2004.
