Falling temperatures spell rise in sales for Wilsons in September

14/10/2003

Wilsons the Leather Experts Inc. has posted a 0.9% increase in sales to $34.3 million for the five weeks ended October 4 2003. Comparable store sales rose 4.3%.

The US firm says year-to-date sales for the current fiscal year have decreased 2% to $211.7 million while comparable store sales have fallen 13.9%.

Joe Waller, chief executive officer, said: “As temperatures cooled in September, we saw sales momentum build in the last week of the month. Sales for the month were however negatively impacted by a change in strategy related to the timing of when we open our seasonal stores. Most of our stores this year will open in October.”
