India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) is working on a programme aimed at improving India’s marketing network in Russia, as the country is emerging as a major market for leather products.
The CLE programme includes the possibility of entering the market through strategic planning or by setting up a base in one of the CIS countries.
According to figures from India’s Union Commerce Industry, the country’s exports to Russia totalled $57.24 million during 1994-95. Since then figures have been inconsistent, reaching $17 million during 2002-2003.
