Tanzanian minister sees scope for leather industry

08/10/2003

The Tanzanian finance minister, Basil P Mramba, has said the country offers excellent opportunities to investors in the leather industry.

The minister predicted that the country could achieve a higher economic growth rate if investments increase – the current rate stands at 6.2%.

Describing the country as a gateway to Central, Southern and Eastern Africa, he described the Tanzanian Investment Centre as a one stop solution to addressing investors’ needs. Duty free importing of equipment and accelerated depreciation to help investors retain earnings are among the facilities available at the unit, the minister said.

Mramba also included the country’s tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and hotel industries, as well as the processing of the precious stone, Tanzanite, as possible investment areas.
