DuPont Teflon leather protector is now available for use in apparel, shoes and accessories. Marketed by Invista, the product is a new branded offering in leather protection, bringing together a well-known name in protective treatments and enhanced performance in natural leather and suede garments.

“Invista continues its commitment to bringing innovative solutions to market to answer consumer’s wants and needs,” said Huw Williams, global business manager, Textile Effects, Invista. “Combining Teflon leather protector with apparel innovations in leather technology, we are giving our tannery and retail partners a branded protective product that consumers can trust and that provides them with easy-to-care for leather and suede products.”

Teflon leather protector prevents liquids penetrating the leather, so that they can be blotted up quickly. Oils, dirt and similar staining substances can be easily wiped away, says Invista. An invisible treatment, Teflon leather protector adheres to the leather surface while still enabling the hide to maintain all of its desired qualities such as odour, colour and hand. It does not affect the suppleness, breathability or feel of the natural leather.

Applied to hides during the tanning or finishing process, the company says that Teflon leather protector provides a superior level of durability and performance as compared to most aftermarket treatments. Tanneries in leather hubs around the world, including Italy, China, Brazil and North America are already producing treated hides for use in home furnishings, and they are prepared to begin treating leather for apparel as consumer and retail demand dictates.
