Comparable store sales for the four-week period decreased 7.3%, compared with a 4.3% increase in 2002. Year-to-date comparable store sales results have fallen 2.9%, compared with a 3.5% decline in the same period last year.
Commenting on the results, Joel Waller, CEO said, “Our comparable store sales were negatively impacted during August as our proportion of clearance merchandise was significantly lower. On the positive side, our new goods are selling at a higher rate than last year.”
