Abicalçados to feature at GDS footwear fair

The Brazilian Shoe Association, Abicalçados, has announced its members will be exhibiting at the GDS footwear fair in Düsseldorf, Germany, September 18-21, 2003.

 

According to the association, the companies will present collections ranging from flip flops and anti-stress shoes to revolutionary footwear styles. All the creations on offer will be subject to aesthetic rules and styling concepts geared towards today’s modern consumers.

 

The Brazilian pavilion will feature four daily fashion shows and a variety of exhibitors, including Azaléla, Dumond and Via Uho for women and Itapuã, San Amrino and Lupifieri for men. For children’s collections, Bibi, Bical and Pampil will be present, to name a few.

 

According to Abicalçados, Brazil ranks third in the global list of leather producers. There are currently 6,000 Brazilian footwear firms employing a total of 270,000 staff producing around 650 million pairs. 170 million are exported to some 100 countries.

 

In 2001, the country’s exports to the US increased 4% to $1.6 billion. Exports to Argentina between 2001 and 2002, meanwhile, fell 88.6% to $15 million.
