Lineapelle draws up environment declaration for upholstery and automotive leathers
The company behind Lineapelle, Lineapelle Fairs SPA, has announced it is developing an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for upholstery and automotive leathers.
Pioneered in the automotive sector, the EPD is a document containing detailed information on the make-up of the product. This information is derived from a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of the product, previously undertaken. The document is intended to stay with the product throughout its working lifetime, the idea being that component recovery process is made that much easier when the product finally becomes time-expired.
Lineapelle Fairs says it is developing the document in consulation with five Italian tanners and that it will be validated by an independent certification body. The company says it is also looking to extend the concept to footwear and garment leathers ‘in the near future.’
