According to Xiamen Inspection Quarantine Bureau, the Chinese city’s footwear exports increased 26% to 366.7 million pairs, during January-June, 2003. Exports rose 23% in value to $759 million.

Government officials said the city has benefited from the fact it is the first in the Fujian province to have speeded up its Customs procedures, which now take a day.
