Chinese January-April 03 leather trade on the up

According to the China Leather Industries Association (CLIA), the country’s exports of leather products increased 25.2% to $4.65 between January and April 2003. Imports, meanwhile, rose 24.1% to $1.29 billion.

 

China’s exports of footwear increased 20.6% to $1.57 billion (32.34 million pairs), accounting for 33.8% of the total export value. Exports of leather garments rose 36.5% to $517 million (13.48 million pieces) while hides went up 33.1% to $335.2 million (70 million kg).

 

Imports of hides increased 23.2% to 22.8 million kg, leather went up 18.9% to 29.4 million kg and footwear rose 33.4% to 740,000 pairs. Imports of leather machinery and leather and footwear accessories, however, declined 11.3% and 8.1% respectively.
