The Chinese real estate dealer, Zhixing Industrial Corporate, has unveiled plans for a 780 million ($95 million) footwear production zone in Chengdu City, Shichuan province.

The project is a joint venture between the company and the Wuhou district government. Once opened, the zone will be the largest of its kind in the area, covering 213 acres and housing 200 factories.

Chengdu City is already China’s third largest producer of ladies footwear and produces around 80 million pairs each year. It is estimated that an additional 200 million pairs of footwear worth over 10 billion ($1.2 billion) will be manufactured at the park every year.

Zhixing Industrial Corporate’s deputy manager, Mr Pan Jiqian, said the venture will be the company’s biggest investment to date and will benefit the local Government and create opportunities for local shoe making factories.

Mr. Pan added that the firm plans to send representatives to Italy to learn about footwear manufacturing and said they will liaise with universities to find talented workers.

It is estimated that the site will be ready for business between 2006 and 2008.
