European commission calls for improvements to cattle transport standards
The European Commission-funded project CATRA (CAttle TRAnsport), presented last week in Brussels, has called for improvements in cattle transportation. The study monitored cattle on a series of journeys throughout Europe. According to the study, the transport logistics chain is in need of review. Not only in terms of transport times, but also road quality, climate and vehicle design. Loading and unloading standards are also in need of improvement, the project says, while relevant EU legislation needs to be implemented.
