China’s National Finance Ministry and General Taxation Bureau has indicated it may remove the produce tax on sheep, pig and ox hides, as well as rabbit, camel and sheep hair.

The move has been applauded by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA). CLIA claims the duty has increased leather companies’ taxes from 2.65% to 15.3% since 1993.
