European glove makers form own Association

23/06/2003

The European glove industry now has its own trade association.

The European Glove Association (EGA) received its official launch at the May 2003 edition of Lineapelle, which means that for the first time in its history, the industry is now able to speak with a common voice.  The main aim of the association, as defined by its Constitution, will be to continually expand the market for European-manufactured gloves.  Accordingly, the association has already appointed an international marketing communications agency to handle its external relations.  From July 1 2003 on, it will also have its own website.  As with the wider promotional campaign, www.glovestory.com has been designed to showcase the best in European glove designs to consumers, fashion journalists, designers and retailers. Plans for a seasonal fashion forecast, commencing with the colours and styles of autumn/winter 2003, are also said to be well advanced.

At launch, the EGA comprised approximately 30 commercial and industrial organisations ranging from glove manufacturers to leather and component suppliers.   A further 30, including several retailers, distributors and wholesalers are said to have registered strong interest are expected to join in the coming months.
