Canada to Slaughter

05/06/2003

In a bid to eliminate suspicions that the eight-year old Black Angus cow slaughtered in January was not the country's only case of mad cow disease, Canada is to slaughter an additional 700 cattle. To date, no additional animals have been found to have the disease while tests on the remaining 192 animals from the same herd as the infected cow have come back negative.  Canadian meat remains the subject of an import ban in its three main export markets of the United States, Mexico and Japan.
