Competition gives helping hand to UK glove designers
The British Glove Association, in collaboration with the Worshipful Company of Glovers, has announced the winners of the 2003 Glove Design Competition. They are as follows:
Category 1: Design a men's or ladies leather glove, which could be given as a Christmas Gift.
1st Prize: David O'Donnell,
Runner-up: Lisa Ann Hibbert,
Category 2: Design a technical glove for a specific sport (examples: sailing; skiing; cycling; mountaineering, etc).
1st Prize: Lauren Price, The
Runner-up: Glenis Morrison,
Category 3: Design a fabric glove with matching hat and scarf as a set for men's, ladies or children's wear.
1st Prize: Zaffeer Shabir, The Sheffield College
Runner-up: Louise Bolan, The Sheffield College
The Silver Salver, which is awarded to the college judged to have contributed the best series of designs and held for one year, has been awarded to The Sheffield College.
The British Glove Association (BGA) was formed in 1998 as a result of a convergence of two trade associations - the Glove Guild of Great Britain and the National Association of Glove Manufacturers (NAGM) - to represent every area of the glove industry as a single voice. The aims of the association are to be the principal representative for every business within the glove trade with government departments, national and international organisations and representatives of related trades.

The competition has now been running since 1975. Its purpose is to encourage students to create practical yet original glove designs. The judges look for designs that show a commercial aspect in respect of ease of manufacture and sell-ability.
