Mexican footwear industry to develop its global presence
In his inaugural address to the members of the Guanajuato Chamber of the Footwear Industry (CICEG), the organisation’s newly-elected president, José Antonio Salim Salle, reaffirmed his commitment to helping
Speaking to over one thousand local entrepreneurs earlier this month, Mr Salim said he also wished to lead the sector towards integration and improve the mindset of local entrepreneurs. At the same time he asserted the need for the industry to work according to the dynamics of the international market.
He also called on the Mexican president, Vicente Fox, to involve the military in the continuing battle against illegal imports. Later during the conference however, the Mayor of Leon, Luis Ernesto Ayala Torres, said it was up to the Customs service and the government trade department to deal with the problem.
Salim urged the CICEG directorship to back him in achieving his efforts and stressed the need for the footwear sector to develop its labour links and abide by the country’s laws to promote legality and order throughout the business.
During the meeting, the owner of Calzado Loredano, Eduardo Mendiola received the "San Crispin de Oro" award for his thirty year contribution to the footwear industry while Baudelio Vielma Blanco was awarded the "Charola de Plata" award for his sixty years in service as a designer, pattern-maker and consultant.
The Secretary of Economy, Guillermo Romero Pacheco and CICEG’s former president, José Carlos Gutiérrez Treviño were also present at the meeting.
