Gucci CEO warns of SARS impact on results

23/05/2003

The chairman and managing director the Italian fashion house Gucci warned yesterday that SARS was likely to impact the company’s results for the first quarter, which are due for release next month.  Gucci’s main business is leather goods, which account for around half of the group’s sales.

Speaking to the national press, De Sole said that as a countermeasure, Gucci planned to reduce its prices in Asia and establish a home delivery service. He also said that, despite diversifying into jewellery and recently acquiring four shoe factories in Milan and in the Marches, Gucci’s core business would remain leather goods.
