Marthens loses ‘Stretch Leather’ patent

16/05/2003

The long-running dispute between DuPont and J.M. Marthens over who owns the rights to ‘Stretch Leather’ would appear to be over.

In a ruling last week, the opposition division of the European Patent Office overturned the patent for stretch leather No. PCT WO-A- 9502072 that had previously been granted to Henri Guenon of Paris-based J.M. Marthens.  The Court gave its decision based on evidence submitted by Cuirs du Futur (Ex-Socop) and DuPont de Nemours International.

In a statement, representatives of DuPont described themselves as being ‘delighted’ with the decision.
