Jose Carlos Touguinha, 44, CEO of the Superior Group died in Harare, Zimbabwe on March 11. He was one of the most colourful figures in the Southern African Tanning scene known for his professionalism and uncompromising striving for world class standards from both staff and suppliers.
 
Jose Carlos entered the tanning industry straight from school as an apprentice to his father at Imponente Tanning (part of the Superior Group) and went on to become the first and only CEO of the group from outside the Costa family. At the time of his death, he was chairman of LAIFEZ (an umbrella organisation of leather and footwear associations in Zimbabwe) and was a past chairman of the Leather Institute of Zimbabwe (LIZ).
