Fashionistas flock to Le Cuir à Paris

25/04/2003

Stylists and designers from the likes of Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Dods were among the visitors noted at the spring 2003 edition of Le Cuir à Paris, the twice-yearly Paris leather show now entering its fourth season on the European circuit.

Held at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles exhibition centre on April 15-16, the show attracted just under 2,800 visitors – a sizeable (29%) leap on the year before – with Haute Couture and Ready to Wear stylists and designers being the principal attendees.    The number of exhibitors was also up by a sizable (40%) margin to 154, even if this did include the small number of US exhibitors who cancelled at the last minute, citing the ‘International Situation.’   Of those who did make it to the show, 55% were finished leather producers, 6% fur producers, 13% textiles/synthetics manufacturers, 11% components and chemical products suppliers, 3% raw skins producers and 12% others (designers, press, professional organisations and schools).

Reflecting its heavy fashion emphasis, this year’s spring event was opened by the renowned French leather fashion designer, Francois Girbaud while a ‘Leather Workshop’ area afforded visiting designers a graphic introduction to the art of leathermaking. The next show in the series, previewing colours and trends for autumn/winter 2004, will take place September 17-19 2003.
