Zimbabwe to receive FMD vaccine

The South African government has announced plans to provide R12 million ($1.5 million) worth of Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine to prevent the disease spreading from Zimbabwe. The South African Agricultural Research Council will deliver the first batch of 39,000 dosages in the near future.   

 

The Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs, Ms Thoko Didiza, said that border security has also been tightened in an effort to limit the spread of the disease between South Africa and its neighbours.

 

The minister has also announced that the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo will receive R5 million ($650,792) to develop dip facilities to improve the detection of tick borne diseases on cattle.
