Jordan’s trade deficit rises 18%

Jordan’s trade deficit increased 18% to 247 million dinars ($342.9 million) between January and February 2003 compared with the year earlier, the Jordanian department of statistics has advised.

 

The department attributed the rise to a 17% increase in imports, amounting to 545 million dinars ($756.8 million). Exports by comparison rose 23% to 230 million dinars ($319.4 million). The US was Jordan’s key market and accounting for 24% of total exports (56 million dinars). 

 

Jordan’s key exports include leather products, clothing, textiles, plastic, fertilisers, potash, phosphate, cement, pharmaceuticals and electronics.
