Ukraine lifts US poultry ban

11/04/2003

In a move that is likely to benefit agricultural trade between the two countries, the Ukrainian authorities have lifted their ban on the import of poultry from the USA.

However, the decision would appear to have caught the US authorities unawares, as documentation confirming that no antibiotics and preservatives are used by the country's poultry breeders has lapsed since the ban was imposed in January 2002. It will now take the US authorities four weeks to prepare the new documentation.
