Eco leather companies step out in China

09/04/2003

The first twelve Chinese leather manufacturers named under China’s eco-genuine leather scheme on January 22, 2003 attended their first public outing together last week.

The companies, including Xinji Dongming Industrial, Zhejiang Yuandong Leather and the Shandong Maode Leather Group Corporation were present at the second China International Leather Production and Technology exhibition held in Dongguan, Guangdong province.

The China Leather Industry Association (CLIE) launched the eco-leather scheme in July, 2002 to ensure the country’s leather industry meets international safety standards. According to the programme, methanol, CrCl, PCP and carcinogenic aromatic amine (including azo-dye) contents in leather products are strictly limited.
