Travel worries fail to deter visitors to Modacalzado

The organisers of International Leather Week, the showpiece event for the Spanish footwear and leather goods sectors, have reported that visitor levels at the 2003 spring show were up by a massive 24% on the year before.

Held March 28-30 at the Juan Carlos I Exhibition Centre on the outskirts of Madrid, the event attracted 22,485 visitors, of whom 12.6% or 2,847 were from outside the country.  Previewing collections from autumn-winter 2003, the event also featured the participation of 708 companies, which was itself a record.  Despite the international situation, visitors from North and South America were up 22% on the year before,  while no change was seen in the number of visitors from the Middle East.

The figures were recorded against the backdrop of 0.75% increase in the value of Spanish footwear exports in 2002, to $2.4 billion.
