Turkish jungle print

03/04/2003

Türkiye is recognised as a country that is professional and highly experienced in leather finishing. One respected Turkish leather producer was recently asked by a client to produce high quality aniline leather, with the specification - "no war paint". These kinds of requests are rare, as many clients favour the fashionable ‘jungle’ theme. One agent who finds it difficult to sell full grain natural leathers confirmed: "Everybody wants jungle prints."

By overprinting the flaws on the grain side with tropical undergrowth, a lot of second quality stock has moved out of Turkish producers storerooms. These printed leathers have been fashion best sellers and professionals refer to them as ‘corrected grain’ leathers.

But this kind of cover-up treatment does not help the image of manufacturers, such as Ileri Deri, Sen Deri, Tekdersan, Fini-Tec and Nadir Deri who carry out high quality printing using only first quality skins. Consequently, producers are predicting less demand for these kitsch leathers.
