New training initiative for UK footwear and textile sectors

01/04/2003

As part of a wider bid to stem the decline in UK manufacturing, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has launched a new training scheme for the apparel, footwear and textile sectors.

Called Fast Forward, the programme is described as giving manufacturers direct access to skills training to support changes to their businesses.  Under the scheme, companies will be eligible for grants covering 75% of their training costs, up to a maximum of £10,000.  DTI says approximately 50 employers in the sector will initially receive support through the scheme.

Fast Forward is being piloted by Skillfast-UK, the industry Sector Skills Council, in partnership with the DTI, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Small Business Service (SBS) and the DfES.
