Compensation claim for ‘Ötzi the Iceman’

26/03/2003

Ötzi, the 5,300-year-old mummified ‘Iceman’ was discovered 10,500 feet above sea level in the Alps on the Austro-Italian border in the early 1990s.

Now Helmut and Erika Simon, of Nuremberg who discovered the body are suing the Italian authorities for compensation as Ötzi is now a star attraction in Bolzano, Italy.

If the courts acknowledge the couple’s claim they will likely gain a share of the $3,750,000 that Ötzi earns in museum fees every year
