Clearance items lift Wilson store sales in February
US leather clothing and accessories retailer Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc. has posted an 8% increase in store sales in February to $40.6 million. Though largely driven by clearance sales, the increase nevertheless represents a significant improvement on the 16.2% decline in sales recorded the year before.
Commenting on the results, Joel Waller, Chief Executive Officer said, “In spite of the severely inclement weather on the East Coast, February proved to be a strong month for Wilsons Leather. As they typically do this time of year, clearance items generated most of our sales for the month and generated comparable store increases in all categories. Our accessories category was up over 20% and our men’s merchandise was up in the low-teens. Our new spring merchandise is selling above plan wherever it has been made available.”
