In 2002, the production value of the leather industry in Haining City, China increased 33.6% to $654.8 million, accounting for 32.2% of the city’s annual output. Upholstery covers and finished leather goods, such as wallets accounted for more than half the total.

There are eight key companies in Haining City, each with outputs exceeding $12.1 million. In 2002, Kasen, a manufacturer of finished leather products was the most profitable, accounting for 40% of the city’s leather production, totalling $242 million. Kasen exports leather goods to the US and Europe and has five sister companies.
