One of the current ‘rising stars’ on the European leather show circuit has to be the high-end Le Cuir à Paris event.

Since the inception of the series in November 2001, the show would appear to have carved a definite niche for itself as an attractive, convenient shop window, from which busy Paris fashion buyers can make their next season’s selections.

Now, in what could be interpreted as a reflection of the show’s growing international credentials, organisers SIC group have said that this spring’s show (Porte de Versailles, April 15-16) will be the first to attract presentations from the Mexican Tanners’ Association, ANPIC, plus the two associations that represent exotic skin producers in the US states of Florida and Louisiana.

Previewing summer 2004 fashions, the spring show will also benefit from the involvement of two new partner organisations, SIC says.  These are the French Institute of Fashion, which will host the five category winners of its ‘Designer of the Year’ competition and the CTC (French Leather Technical Centre), with the latter presenting a series of workshops on making the most of leather.

With the levels of interest now being shown in the event, Le Cuir à Paris would appear to be living up to its organisers’ billing as a new, more focused kind of exhibition that emphasises the role of creativity in leather design.
