Poletto looks to the future
More details have emerged on the current status of the Italian tanning machinery maker, Officine Meccaniche Fratelli Poletto.
The new owner of the Poletto name and its San Pietro Mussolini factory is Euroventilatori International – itself a former Poletto Group company now owned by a consortium of tanners from the Valchiampo area; Giuseppe Walter Peretti (UNIC president and owner of the Peretti Group), Mario Tolio (owner of the Tolio Tannery) and his brother Giuseppe Tolio, who is an insurance broker. Euroventilatori was reportedly the only participant in the auction for the company held on January 28, where its minimum bid of Eur12 million was accepted.
Launched under the new name of Poletto Technology, the new company has already restarted production, having taken on around 70 of the San Pietro site’s 100 workers. The company will continue to provide support of existing Poletto machine users.
When it broke up last summer amid debts of Eur67 million, the Poletto Group comprised sixteen different companies encompassing not just tanning machinery, but also foundries and aluminium smelting.
