Leather goods and footwear lead Wenzou’s export industry
The Wenzhou Foreign Economic & Trade Bureau has ranked the city’s top ten key export products for 2002. Leather goods and footwear, textiles and apparel and spectacles were the top three product groupings, accounting for 80% of total exports.
During the period, the city’s total exports generated $2.65 billion. Exports of leather goods and footwear led the results, accounting for 30% of the total. Leather goods, footwear and natural leather and synthetic leather exports generated US$778 million, $667.23 and $120 million respectively.
Furniture, toys, fur products, circuits, cigarette lighters, plastics, vehicle & accessories and aquatic products were the other top seven commodities. These results take into account the total volume and the level of increase of exports. For example, in 2002 exports of footwear and leather goods increased by 44.6%.
