Mexican/Argentine free trade agreement kicks off with footwear, machinery concessions

Footwear and production machinery exports from Argentina look set to be among the first to benefit from a new free trade agreement between the country and Mexico.

Following talks last week, Argentine Industry Sub-secretary, Guillermo Ferraro, said he was hopeful the concessions could be implemented as early as next month.    Under the agreement, which has the backing of the private sector, both countries will lift tariffs across a range of non-competing exports with immediate effect.  Others will be lifted after 5, 10, 12 and 15 years, until all trade between the two countries is included in the agreement, the minister said.
