EC poised to reclaim € 93 million in ‘misspent’ CAP funds
Following an agreement reached in Brussels last week, the European Commission has been given the green light to recover a total of Eur93 million from various member states, for funds ‘misspent’ under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
Included on the commission’s ‘hit list’ are $26.44 million from the German government for its ‘unsatisfactory control of the arable crops sector’, Eur26.26 million from Italy for outstanding contributions to the central development fund’ and ‘major shortcomings in the fields of rural development’ (Eur14.5 million and Eur11.8 million respectively) and Eur24.39 million from United Kingdom for its ‘unsatisfactory control in the animal sector’ (Eur23.63 million) and ‘shortfalls in public storage’ (Eur0.76 million).
